At our IV therapy Toronto lounge, vitamin C is continuously celebrated as a powerful antioxidant!
This is because it’s essential for several body functions, including immunity, cellular functioning, collagen synthesis, chronic disease prevention, cognition, and more. But there’s a problem: the body cannot create vitamin C on its own, so we have to outsource it from dietary means or supplementation. Since it is already in our food consumption, a deficiency to this nutrient is rare. Though, “…[i]n countries with low rates of food insecurity, vitamin C deficiency can occur from a diet low in vitamin C, but severe deficiency (causing scurvy) is uncommon,” the Merck Manual explains. Nevertheless, these individuals are at risk of this deficiency: pregnant/breastfeeding women; those with inflammatory health conditions; patients with long-lasting diarrhea; those suffering from thyroid conditions (i.e. hyperthyroidism); people who recently underwent a surgical procedure; and nicotine smokers. Thus, replenishing essential vitamins in the body could play a role in optimal functioning (i.e. IV therapy with Leucine) . In this post, the Toronto Functional Medicine Centre highlights the advantages of this supplement for the human body. Beneficial Effects
5. Could have an impact on brain function: Vitamin C levels are actually concentrated in the brain and neuroendocrine tissues. Neurodegenerative health conditions, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, tend to be correlated with excessive oxidative stress. Additional studies are necessary, though vitamin C’s antioxidant effects might help with alleviating oxidative stress for improved brain function. Toronto Functional Medicine Centre Explains 6 Facts About Vitamin K1 Injection in Toronto11/28/2022
Toronto, Ontario -
Toronto Functional Medicine Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada, has recently released a blog post that explains 6 facts about Vitamin K1 injection in Toronto. They provide different kinds of vitamins as injections and one of these is vitamin K1. This is one of the primary forms of vitamin K, which is a requirement in the building of bones and in the regulation of blood coagulation when there are injuries, abrasions, or cuts. Vitamin K is made up of fat-soluble key vitamins, including vitamin K1. K1 is also known as phylloquinone, and it makes up 90 percent of the vitamin K found in the human body. It is vital for the human body because the bones and cartilage contain proteins that depend on K1. Vitamin K deficiency is actually rare in adults because it can be obtained through one’s diet and the intestines can naturally produce vitamin K. Nevertheless, they recommend vitamin K1 supplementation because of its importance in optimal functioning. There are six facts about vitamin K1 that people need to know. First of all, K1 or phylloquinones are typically found in green vegetables and in plant chlorophylls while K2 or menaquinones are synthesized by bacteria and usually found in food where bacteria played a role in the production process. Second, vitamin K1, when combined with vitamin D and calcium supplements, may help in improving bone mineral content. This was observed in a double-blind, two-year placebo-controlled trial involving women ages 60 and above. Third, it was found that K1 may play a role in improving brain function. According to an article in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, elderly patients with Alzheimer’s disease had low levels of vitamin K1. In another study, it was noted that vitamin K1 is linked to better verbal episodic memory performances, particularly with recall tasks. Fourth, in a study involving women over a 10-year period, those who had low K1 intake were observed to have a 30 percent chance of getting a hip fracture. This indicates that low levels of K1 may increase hip fracture risk in women. Fifth, there is a need for finding an appropriate delivery method for vitamin K1. This is because its bioavailability from green vegetables has been noted to be lower compared to the bioavailability from oil or supplements. Furthermore, the amount of K1 in green vegetables is dependent on their chlorophyll content, which means that the outer leaves tend to have more phylloquinone compared to the inner leaves. A K1 intramuscular injection may offer a full absorption rate without undesirable side effects. Sixth, while K1 deficiency is rare, some adults are at risk. This includes those who are taking medications or certain supplements that interact with the injection; those with malabsorption problems, such as those with celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease; and adults with liver damage or disease. Therefore, it is important to consult with a functional medicine practitioner to make sure that vitamin K1 supplementation is suitable for the patient’s condition. Toronto, Ontario -
Toronto Functional Medicine Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada, has recently released a blog post that explains the benefits of glutathione IV therapy in Toronto. Glutathione is produced in the liver using amino acids and it has been noted to support immune function regulation and tissue repair. In a previous article, it was explained that glutathione may be applicable for autoimmune diseases, gut inflammation, and age-related conditions. It may promote detoxification and may help destroy free radicals in the human body. A study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (JISSN) has explained that oxidative stress is linked to various conditions, such as pulmonary fibrosis, cancer, atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, aging, and Parkinson’s disease. It has been observed that supplementing with glutathione may reduce wrinkles and enhance skin elasticity and even boost brain function. These may be due to the decrease in oxidative stress. Ultimately, this may lead to better cellular function through the regulation of cellular events, such as cell proliferation, synthesis of DNA and proteins, cytokine production, etc. Unfortunately, glutathione levels in the body decline as people age, which is why supplementation may be needed, particularly in promoting detoxification. Glutathione supplementation may help encourage an anti-aging effect, particularly in preventing wrinkles. It may also provide support for the aging brain. A study published in the “Molecules” journal indicated that the decline in glutathione function in the brain has been found to be linked to the loss of neurons during the aging process or due to neurological diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease. It was also noted that glutathione supplementation may also help in reducing cell damage. In a study of patients with fatty liver disease, IV drips of glutathione resulted in reduced levels of malondialdehyde, which is the indicator for liver cellular damage. There are also other possible benefits from glutathione supplementation. These include: assistance in regulating blood sugar levels; may promote DNA repair; may reduce oxidative damage in patients who have type 2 diabetes; may improve insulin levels; and may help reduce symptoms caused by respiratory disease. It should be noted, however, that there are possible side effects of intravenous or oral glutathione supplementation. These include: abdominal cramping, bloating; decline in zinc levels; headaches; allergic reactions such as rashes; and problems with breathing due to bronchial constriction. Thus, it is advisable to consult with a functional medicine provider or IV therapist. At Toronto Functional Medicine Centre, glutathione oral or IV therapy will be given to fit the patient’s health goals. They will consider the nutritional deficiencies or the much-needed energy of each particular patient. Aside from glutathione, their IV therapy may include other ingredients, such as: mistletoe, high-dose vitamin C, glutamic acid, several amino acids, major minerals, NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), and other key vitamins. Recently, they have also introduced lipotropic (MIC) injections in Toronto, which may be useful for weight management in conjunction with diet and exercise. The Toronto Functional Medicine Centre is a clinic in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that applies an integrative functional medicine approach combining acupuncture, integrative functional medicine, IV therapy, allopathic medicine, naturopathic medicine, detoxification, and bio-identical hormone treatments, and more. Toronto, Ontario -
Toronto Functional Medicine Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada, has recently released a blog post that explains the use of lipotropic (MIC) injections in Toronto for weight management. These injections should be used in combination with other weight-loss strategies, such as diet, exercise, and nutritional supplements. The article points out that there may be health advantages of undergoing lipotropic injection treatments. These may include: improved skin characteristics; potential support for the reduction of inflammation; modest reduction of symptoms of chronic liver disease; and the potential for enhancing muscle and cardiovascular health. The lipotropic (MIC) injection is made up of methionine, inositol, and choline. Methionine is an amino acid that acts as an antioxidant that stimulates the human body to produce somatotropin, which is a hormone that triggers the burning of fat. For people whose health goals require exercise, methionine may help in improving physical performance and tissue repair, as well as with energy levels and lean muscle mass. Methionine may also help with getting rid of toxic chemicals that could hamper metabolism and cause DNA damage, such as heavy metals. Meanwhile, inositol is a unique form of sugar that has been noted to contribute to the improvement of brain function and in the balancing of neurotransmitters. It has also been observed to help with insulin resistance, which is the condition where the body tends to ignore insulin signals. In one study involving women with gestational diabetes, inositol was found to be advantageous for managing insulin resistance. And finally, choline is a nutrient that may promote liver health by keeping cholesterol homeostasis. It may help the body in metabolising fats and breaking down fats for production of energy. Choline has been found to be helpful in preventing conditions such as fatty liver or excess fat in the blood. In addition, its efficient metabolism of fats has also been found to offer a better level of satiety, which results in reduced consumption of calories, with the ultimate result of weight loss. The functional medicine providers at Toronto Functional Medicine Centre may be consulted with regards to weight loss goals. Some of the therapies that may be used include MIC injections, vitamin B12 shots, and supportive UV nutrient therapy drips. Vitamin B12 may help in enhancing brain health and blood cell production, and is provided in the form of an intramuscular shot. Meanwhile, IV nutrient therapy, which consists of administering doses of nutrients directly into the vein may help replenish nutritional deficiencies that may hinder metabolism. For instance, zinc in IV therapy is one of the essential nutrients that are recommended to help in promoting the healing of damaged tissues and in improving immune function. Other nutrients that they may include in the IV therapy drips are a combination of amino acids, mistletoe, glutamic acid, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+ IV therapy), various minerals, and more. They also offer the high-dose vitamin C drip that may help in minimising seasonal infections and in aiding the immune function. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vXwG2w1_3s The Toronto Functional Medicine Centre employs integrative functional medicine therapies such as naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, IV therapy, allopathic medicine and more to elevate their patients' health. Toronto Functional Medicine Centre in Toronto, ON, Canada, has recently released a blog post that explains the importance of zinc in IV therapy in Toronto. The article points out that zinc is an essential mineral that may help recharge a person’s immune function and promote healing for damaged tissues. Zinc serves as a cofactor for more than 300 enzymes in the body. And a number of studies have indicated that zinc may offer various health benefits, such as support for cardiovascular health, the skin, the eyes, and more. As such zinc is one of the supplements that they often recommend to patients to replenish their nutrient levels. There are various health advantages of zinc supplementation. First of all, it may help in preventing or alleviating nutritional deficiencies. Research has shown that if there is insufficient zinc in the body, this may result into sexual dysfunction, growth impairment, gastrointestinal problems, inflammation, or cutaneous issues. Second, zinc may be able to decrease the duration of seasonal infections, such as the common cold. In a 2017 study of children, those who were provided with zinc supplements had a short period of runny nose and congestion. Third, it may help in clearing acne. In a 2021 study, those who took zinc supplements were able to notice improvements compared to the study participants who used antibiotics for acne. Fourth, zinc supplements may delay age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A functional medicine practitioner can provide consultation with regards to zinc supplementation. It is important to note that too much zinc in the body can result in an upset stomach. It may also interact with medications, such as antibiotics. And if it is taken for a long period of time, it may diminish copper levels in the body. To ensure that the proper amount of zinc is taken, a health care provider has to supervise zinc supplementation. Zinc may be administered as oral supplements or through intravenous (IV) therapy. Capsules or tablets containing zinc are available. However, it should be taken with food and not taken at the same time as iron and calcium supplements. And the liquid versions may be more suitable for those who have dysphagia or malabsorption. Zinc may also be infused as one of the primary ingredients of IV therapy. IV therapy offers the benefit of bypassing the digestive tract, which means better absorption rates and avoidance of gastrointestinal side effects. IV therapy naturally enhances cellular energy and blood cell production, while fighting oxidative stress. They compound IV therapy drips everyday at the Toronto Functional Medicine Centre. Each of these IV vitamin drips are personalized for each patient. IV therapy may be used for various health problems with regards muscle health, brain health, chronic fatigue, premature aging, blood sugar levels, cellular functioning, energy levels, degenerative disease, mental performance, adrenal function, physical performance, post-disease symptoms, and more. Their health care providers apply the functional medicine philosophy, which means that they address patients as individuals instead of groups of people. Toronto, Ontario -
The ON based Toronto Functional Medicine Centre (TFMC) has shared new insights on the impact of using functional medicine for low leptin levels. Previously, the clinic had already shared materials that explained how high levels of leptin could lead to an increased risk of obesity and so on. As with many situations, however, a balance of this hormone is necessary to ensure good health and wellness, and TFMC is now taking the time to illustrate why low levels of leptin could also be problematic. The clinic explains all of this in an article titled ‘Low Leptin Levels Can Be Concerning: Our Functional Medicine Toronto Clinic Sheds Light,’ which can be found on their website’s blog. Many articles, including the earlier entry on the drawbacks of high leptin levels, can be found here, and the clinic encourages their community to visit their website for more information about maintaining optimum health. Many of the insights they share, for instance, may be useful for those who need help managing nutritional deficiencies. Notably, it is also recommended that patients schedule an appointment at the clinic if they want a healthcare practitioner's opinion and assistance. According to the article, leptin is sometimes known as the ‘starvation hormone’ because it essentially informs the brain when enough food has been consumed. Leptin is how a person feels satiated after a meal, so having too much or too little can drastically affect their body. Too much, for instance, and they may counterintuitively eat more because their body has developed a resistance to it and no longer responds to its presence in the way it should. Too little leptin can similarly wreak havoc on the body’s regular behavior. “When you lack this hormone or have low amounts,” the article says, “your body acts like it doesn’t have enough fat; because leptin is not present or you only have low amounts, this can generate overeating and obesity because leptin isn’t telling the body to start or stop eating.” It continues, “But low leptin levels can also transition your body into ‘starvation mode.’ When this happens, your body will lessen its energy levels and you use less calories. It’s no wonder low levels of this ‘satiety’ hormone are affiliated with poor cognition, a mental health issue like depression, anorexia or repeated infections.” The Toronto Functional Medicine Centre says a number of unwanted health concerns may stem from unbalanced leptin levels, including (but not limited to) relatively poor immune function, depression, impaired cognition and memory and even low fertility and osteoporosis in women. As such, patients who believe that low leptin levels may be the culprit should seek the advice of a functional medicine practitioner. Should it be confirmed, a customised health program may be formulated to address the issue at its core. Anyone seeking the help of functional medicine for low leptin levels at the Toronto Functional Medicine Centre will receive the benefit of a completely personalised approach to their health and well being. TFMC takes the patient's needs into account, and their healthcare team makes it a point to uncover and address any health issues as individual symptoms can overlap with underlying conditions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKSYFSvHKzM Patients are welcome to contact the Toronto Functional Medicine Centre if they have any concerns regarding low leptin levels or any other health-related issue they may be experiencing.
